Slovakia: Exception to the Truck Driving Ban During Easter Week

The Presidium of the Police of the Slovak Republic has decided to introduce a general exception to the traffic ban for trucks during the Easter holiday period. The decision was made at the request of the ČESMAD Slovakia carriers’ association, taking into account the projected increase in traffic volume and the need to ensure transport safety and fluidity.

The exemption will apply exclusively on Friday, 3 April 2026 (Good Friday), from 00:00 to 06:00. During this time, trucks normally subject to restrictions will be allowed to travel on motorways, expressways, first-class roads and international routes, provided that they are entering Slovakia from neighbouring countries and their destination is within the territory of the Slovak Republic, such as a transport base or unloading point.

The Slovak police also emphasize that, despite the introduction of the exemption, officers retain full authority to intervene in road traffic. In practice, this means they may temporarily stop a vehicle or order a change of route if required for safety or traffic flow reasons.

The exemption is limited in scope and does not apply to the remaining holiday dates, namely 5 and 6 April this year, when standard truck driving bans in Slovakia will remain in force.
