A1 in Hamburg closed all weekend. Trucks must take a different route
The A1 motorway in Hamburg will be completely closed in the direction of Lübeck for 55 hours. From Friday, August 28 at 10:00 p.m. until Monday, August 31 at 5:00 a.m., it will not be possible to travel between the Hamburg-Harburg interchange (38) and the Hamburg-Stillhorn interchange (37). The closure is due to construction work on the new Süderelb Bridge.
Access to the section being closed will already be blocked at 9:00 p.m. During the closure, work will include the installation of sheet pile walls as part of the construction of the new crossing over the Elbe. Autobahn GmbH points out that some of the work is weather-dependent and that the schedule may be subject to short-notice changes.
The restrictions apply only to the carriageway in the direction of Lübeck. The carriageway towards Bremen will remain open.
For long-distance traffic travelling from Bremen towards the Baltic coast, the recommended diversion is via A261 - A7 - B206 - A20. Drivers can also use the local U83 diversion, which leads from the Hamburg-Harburg interchange via the B75 through the Hamburg-Neuland and Hamburg-Kornweide areas to the A1 at the Hamburg-Stillhorn interchange.
Autobahn GmbH warns of significant disruption and substantial delays on the diversion routes as well. During previous weekend closures of the A1 related to preparations for the construction of the Süderelb Bridge, long traffic jams formed on these routes. Hauliers should therefore allow extra travel time and plan their routes accordingly well in advance.
For abnormal-load and heavy-haulage transports, Autobahn GmbH recommends using the last available parking and rest areas before the closed section, as travel towards Lübeck will not be possible.
This will not be the last A1 closure at this location. The next one is scheduled from September 18 at 10:00 p.m. until September 21 at 5:00 a.m. This time, the carriageway in the opposite direction, towards Bremen, will be closed between Hamburg-Stillhorn and Hamburg-Harburg.
