Austria: HGV driving ban at 3 border crossings with Hungary

In order to counteract the negative effects of HGV traffic on local residents and as a measure to improve road safety, the local authorities of three districts in the state of Burgenland have decided to introduce a driving ban on lorries over 7.5 tonnes.

The ban applies to roads B62, B16 and B58 leading to three border crossings with Hungary in the towns of Klingenbach (Eisenstadt-Umgebung district), Deutschkreutz (Oberpullendorf district) and Bonisdorf (Jennersdorf district). Vehicles travelling to and from destinations located in the affected districts are exempt from the ban, which will come into effect once information road signs have been placed alongside the access roads, that is within three to four weeks.
Diversions routes for HGVs in transit go through five other border crossing at Kittsee (A6), Nickelsdorf (A4), Rattersdorf (B61/B61a), Schachendorf (B63) and Heilgenkreuz (B65).
