Germany: full closure near the A7 begins. Drivers will be diverted

From 23 to 26 April, drivers travelling on Germany’s A7 motorway must expect disruptions in the area of the Illertissen interchange, where the eastern roundabout on the St 2018 road has been completely closed. Traffic to and from the motorway is being diverted via Vöhringen, Buch, Weißenhorn and Illertissen, which may lengthen journey times and make access to local industrial zones more difficult.

The reason is resurfacing work in the area of a heavily used junction. According to the Krumbach State Construction Authority, the Illertissen interchange is one of the particularly busy locations, with a significant share of traffic also generated by heavy goods vehicles. Frequent braking, accelerating and the movement of heavy truck combinations through the roundabout have led to the deterioration of the asphalt surface. As part of the works, part of the approximately 8,000 square metres of road surface scheduled for renovation within the entire junction area will be renewed.

For the transport sector, the key information is that a full closure of the roundabout will remain in force during the works, and traffic to and from the A7 motorway will be redirected to diversion routes. The designated routes run through Buch, Weißenhorn, Vöhringen and Illertissen, while motorway-related traffic is being routed via the Vöhringen interchange. The disruptions may be particularly significant for companies operating regional transport services and for vehicles serving local industrial zones. The road authority notes that during the closure of the eastern roundabout, the “Leitschäcker” industrial zone can be accessed from Unterroth via the district road NU 5.

In addition, until 30 April, the commuter car park located between the motorway bridge and the western roundabout remains closed, as it is being used as a construction staging area. For carriers and professional drivers, this means that restrictions must be taken into account not only at the interchange itself, but also in its immediate surroundings. If weather conditions do not allow the works to be carried out on schedule, German road authorities have planned alternative dates on subsequent weekends. For transport companies, this is a signal to continuously monitor traffic management changes and plan journeys along this section in advance.
