Hungary: Night-time exemption from the May 1 truck ban. Revised schedule for heavy vehicles
This is the only “breathing window,” however. During the day on Saturday, traffic remains permitted, but at 22:00 the standard weekend ban resumes and continues uninterrupted until Sunday at 22:00. The regulations apply to all heavy vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, both in domestic and international transport, regardless of EURO class.
The rules regarding return from the border remain unchanged. During the spring period, it is not possible to continue driving after entering the country while the ban is in force. Such an exemption applies only in July and August.
Ban schedule for the upcoming weekend (after changes):
• May 1 (Friday): 06:00 – 22:00
• May 2 (Saturday): 22:00 – 24:00
• May 3 (Sunday): 00:00 – 22:00
Standard exemptions remain in place, including for the transport of perishable food, live animals, and humanitarian cargo, provided formal requirements are met.
The revised schedule provides a few additional operational hours at a critical point in the week. In practice, this may reduce vehicle congestion ahead of the ban and make route planning easier during the May holiday period.
